Kantala is a Sri Lankan ethical fashion accessory brand which leverages a 300 year old weaving technique indigenous to a tiny village in the hill country of Sri Lanka. The handwoven mat, which is woven using a natural fibre harvested from the regrowing plant, Hana, and is the centre piece of all our products. The brand “Kantala” is derived from the Sanskrit name of the Hana plant. This reinforces the brand’s close connection with the traditional artistry of the handwoven mat and the natural fibres which are the key resource of all Kantala products. We aim to give the world a glimpse of Sri Lanka’s authentic artistry through contemporary designs while providing the artisans a respectable livelihood in order to preserve this waning art of weaving for the future.
